Emma Watson’s spell in fashion

Some said Hollywood actress Emma Watson’s attempts to turn ethical fashion designer were a flop.

But figures released by Fairtrade company People Tree suggest a different story.

In fact, overall sales from the two collections which Emma designed came to a total of £446,000.

Moreover, the fashion brand has said that the ranges provided work for 400 farmers, artisans and tailors.

‘There has been a lot of speculation about my People Tree collections, with some saying that they “failed” or that I was unhappy.

This was really strange because I felt the opposite of this,’ the Harry Potter star says on her website.

Now, Safia Minney, the glamorous founder of People Tree, is hoping Emma will design more clothes.

‘I would love Emma to continue designing for me, but she is really busy with all her film work.

So many more young people buy our clothes because of her involvement.

She has a great eye,’ says Minney.

‘At the beginning, I didn’t think she would have been interested to come to Bangladesh with me to see where the clothes are made, but she was really hard-working.

‘It was a crazy juggle for Emma, which much older people probably couldn’t have dealt with, but she handled it very well.’
